Meet the Team

  • Roy Carmo Salsinha

    PRESIDENT, CEO

    Mr. Salsinha is President and CEO of Carmo Companies, a consortium of private equity and real estate related service businesses. He is responsible for the firm’s strategy as well as institutional investor, private equity and development partner ventures. Mr. Salsinha is a seasoned investor relations real estate professional with an extensive track record, working with vehicles based in Latin America and other emerging markets on their fundraising efforts. Prior to founding Carmo Companies, Mr. Salsinha worked at Markets Group, LLC where he was focused on building platforms within key Latin American economies aimed at introducing international allocators to real estate funds and developers in the region that were seeking capital financing options in the 1-3 year term. He also worked significantly with US-based real estate vehicles that were seeking LATAM institutional capital, particularly from the private wealth space. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business from Hofstra University, New York. Mr. Salsinha is fluent in English, Portuguese and can communicate in Spanish proficiently.

  • Marjorie Cucalon

    PARTNER

    Based in Miami, Ms. Cucalon is a Partner and Strategic Advisor at Carmo Capital. In 2004, she founded Baltrax International Ltd., a consulting firm involved in advisory services to USA and Latin American companies seeking funds for fixed income, private equity and real estate. In 2006, Ms. Cucalon founded Baltrax Asset Management, a registered investment advisor specializing in tactical asset allocation. Prior to Baltrax, she developed the asset management division including developing a fund of funds product and structured derivatives notes for Sterling Financial Asset Management. Prior to Sterling, Ms. Cucalon was a Senior Investment Officer at Americas Trust Bank and held senior positions at Union Bank of Switzerland N.Y., Promex Finamex Financial, Banamex and Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank. Ms. Cucalon received a BBA from Bernard Baruch NY and completed her post graduate studies at NYIF. She is fluent in Spanish and English.

  • Erick Cruz

    SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, PRIVATE EQUITY

    Mr. Cruz is responsible for sponsorship and delegate registrations at Carmo Companies. He has over three years selling conferences, including Private Wealth events across Latin America. Prior to his conference career he was a financial consultant for a full-service investment banking firm and a Licensed Real Estate Salesperson for Rapid Realty. He graduated from Herbert H. Lehman college in Bronx, NY, with a BBA in Business Administration, and minor in Computer Information Systems. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

  • Catherine Correia

    ASSOCIATE, INVESTOR RELATIONS & VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING

    Ms. Correia is a creative innovator with a demonstrated history of working in the marketing industry. She is currently is responsible for handling all conference marketing initiatives at Carmo Companies. Ms Correia is also a member of Carmo’s investor relations team and deals directly with leading family office and institutional investors as it relates to conference participation.She previously worked as a Branding/Marketing Coordinator for Brexlink, one of New York’s fastest growing tech companies. Ms. Correia graduated with a bachelor’s degree focused in Business Administration, from Farmingdale State College in New York. She is fluent in English, Portuguese, and proficient Spanish.

  • Nicolas Rodriguez

    VICE PRESIDENT, PRIVATE EQUITY

    Mr. Rodriguez is an investor relations professional responsible for Carmo’s Latin American private wealth and private equity clients. He works closely with single-family offices, multifamily offices, institutional investors and private equity funds based in Latin America and the US. Prior to working at Carmo Companies, he was the investor relations assistant to the CFO of ProColombia, a non-profit organization from the Colombian government, which helps international groups invest in Colombia. Mr. Rodriguez graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business from Universidad de Los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia. He is fluent in Spanish and English.

  • Renato Ferreira

    VICE PRESIDENT, REAL ESTATE

    Mr. Ferreira is an investor relations professional responsible for Carmo’s Latin American private wealth and private equity clients. He works closely with single family offices, multifamily offices, institutional investors, private equity real estate funds and institutional quality Real Estate Developers that are based in Brazil. Prior to working at Carmo Companies, he was a self-employed Lawyer in Brazil, and worked for Homero Costa, the first law office in Belo Horizonte and one of the most prestigious in the region. He is also the CEO of IDS Rio Doce, a non-profit organization in Governador Valadares MG, which helps people fight for social rights, the protection of the environment and support the government with social and ecologic education. Mr. Ferreira graduated with a bachelor’s Degree in Law from FADIVALE, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is fluent in Portuguese and English.

  • Flavia Correia

    ASSOCIATE, INVESTOR RELATIONS, REAL ESTATE

    Ms. Correia is a seasoned investor relations professional. She collaborates with institutional investors such as pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices and fund managers on virtual conferences focused on fundraising and deployment of capital. She also assists the Carmo production team by developing content and event panel topics covering Private Equity, Private Credit/Debt, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Venture/Growth Capital. She joined Carmo Companies in the spring of 2020. Prior to working at Carmo Companies, she was a paralegal for a law firm on Long Island, New York. Mr. Correia graduated with an associates degree from Nassau Community College. She is fluent in English, Portuguese and proficient Spanish.

  • Heriberto “Eddie” Acevedo

    VICE PRESIDENT

    Heriberto focuses on the development of institutional client and consultant relationships in Carmo Companies’ Private Equity team. He brings 8+ years of experience in sponsorship procurement and delegate sales across the US and Latin America conference industries. Prior to entering the conference industry, Eddie held Municipal Securities Principal and General Securities Representative licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the State University of New York College at Oneonta and is fluent in English and Spanish.

  • Alisson Pena

    MARKETING ASSISTANT

    Alisson Pena is a Marketing Assistant at Carmo Companies. He works closely with the sales and marketing team, handling day to day outreach and meeting scheduling. He also helps build client data and works on Carmo’s Latin America specific events. Prior to working at Carmo Companies, he worked as Fashion Designer in one of the largest factories in Parana State, Brazil. He also had the privilege to work with stylists and fashion coordinator in New York City. Mr. Pena graduated with a bachelor’s degree focused on Fashion, from Federal University of Technology in Brazil. He is fluent in Portuguese and English.

  • Melissa Fuentes-Ribeiro

    MARKETING ASSOCIATE

    As a Marketing Associate for Carmo Companies, Melissa Fuentes-Ribeiro brings a unique blend of creativity in marketing and real estate. In addition, Melissa actively contributes to Carmo's investor relations team, where she directly engages with prominent family offices and institutional investors, particularly in matters pertaining to conference participation. With a background as a licensed real estate agent since 2013, Melissa possesses a deep understanding of the industry and a keen eye for effective marketing strategies. Her experience in real estate sales and client relations provides her with valuable insights into the needs and preferences of target audiences. Melissa's exceptional skills in market research, digital marketing, and content creation enable her to develop innovative campaigns that drive brand awareness and generate leads. Guided by her favorite motto, "Expand always in all ways" Melissa exemplifies a mindset of continuous growth and embraces new opportunities to excel in her role at Carmo Companies.

    Ken is responsible for creating and implementing the Kingbird investment strategy, acquisitions, joint ventures and investment management platform in the U.S. and Latin America. He brings over 25 years of real estate experience in 15 states and 12 countries. From 2007 to 2017, he served as senior vice president of GID Investment Advisers LLC, a real estate investment/operating company with over 25,000 units and $12 billion in assets; he also served as a senior managing director of GID International Group, where he was a member of GID’s Executive Committee, and was responsible for GID’s international real estate investments, joint ventures and portfolio companies. Previously he was managing director of Asia at Starwood Capital Group (Tokyo); senior managing director of GE Capital Europe (Prague,); and managing director at TrizecHahn Asia Pacific (Hong Kong). Prior to this, Ken headed the acquisitions/development group at Golub & Co., a large Chicago family-owned real estate owner/operator, where he acquired approximately 19,000 residential units in ten states representing over $850 million in value.

    Joncarlo R. Mark is founder of Upwelling Capital Group LLC, an investment adviser that provides capital solutions to premier institutional investors. Prior to forming Upwelling in 2011, Joncarlo was a Senior Portfolio Manager in the Alternative Investment Management (AIM) Program at the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). CalPERS is the largest US public pension fund, with over $400 billion in overall assets. From 2007 to 2010, Joncarlo served as Chairman of the Board for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA), whose 250-member institutions at the time managed more than $1 trillion of private equity capital. He continues to serve as a faculty member for the ILPA Institute, which provides executive education to its membership. From 2014 to 2020, Joncarlo was a trustee for the University of California Davis Foundation and held the role of Finance and Investment Committee chair from 2017 to 2019. From 2012 to 2018, he was also on the Board of Directors for AltExchange Alliance, an industry group dedicated to implementing standardization of financial reporting in private equity. Prior to joining CalPERS in 1999, Joncarlo spent six years with Premier Farnell PLC, a global industrial products manufacturing and distribution company. Joncarlo earned an MBA from the Graduate School of Management at the University of California Davis and received a BA from the University of California San Diego.

    Brett Hickey is the Founder & CEO of Star Mountain Capital, LLC, a specialized U.S. lower middle-market investment firm. Star Mountain employs a data-driven approach to provide value-added debt and equity capital to established small and medium-sized companies leveraging its large market expertise, scale-driven resources, and longstanding relationships. Star Mountain also has a secondary fund investment business. Brett has been investing in this end of the market for over 15 years and began his career as an investment banker at Citigroup / Salomon Smith Barney. Mr. Hickey graduated from McGill University with a finance and accounting degree. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School via its Owner/President Management executive leadership program. He Chair’s Star Mountain’s Charitable Foundation which supports the career development of women, veterans and athletes as well as health & wellness initiatives including cancer research. He is a member of YPO and on the global boards of Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs and Help for Children. Additionally, Brett is a former Canadian national gold medalist speed skater.

    James D. Bailey is an experienced advocate and counselor. He values honesty and client service, and builds lasting relationships with the firm’s clients. Prior to founding Bailey Duquette, James practiced litigation and antitrust at the international law firms Baker & McKenzie and Coudert Brothers. James is a seasoned and skillful litigator, who handles state and federal court cases in a diverse array of subject matters ranging from commercial contract disputes to antitrust to IP infringement litigation. When not providing a steady hand to guide his clients through the stresses of litigation, James counsels his clients on the day-to-day legal issues affecting their business. James has led internal investigations on behalf of several publicly-traded U.S. companies and has provided FCPA compliance training to clients in Latin America and Asia. In addition, James specializes in antitrust counseling. He frequently assesses the antitrust implications of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and IP license agreements. In particular, James advises trade associations, such as the Audio Publishers Association, on antitrust compliance. He has developed and implemented antitrust compliance programs for several Fortune 500 companies. He has lectured at NYU Stern and Columbia Law School on antitrust and intellectual property.
